There’s no crying in baseball, but there sure is in entrepreneurship.
Instagram has created this picture-perfect idea that business is all rainbows and sunshine. It’s iced matcha lattes, a color-coded calendar, working poolside, and hitting $10K months overnight. It’s all freedom and ease—and if you’re struggling, then clearly you’re doing something wrong, right?
Wrong.
Because while entrepreneurship is incredible, entrepreneurship is hard. And pretending otherwise is doing everyone a disservice.
Here’s the thing they don’t tell you when you start your business: this journey will grow you in ways you didn’t ask for. You’ll cry tears of joy and tears of defeat.
When I started building this business, I believed in the dream. And to be clear—I still believe in the dream. I’ve had the happy tears when I hit my first $100K. I’ve cried when I saw a client succeed because of the work we did together.
But I’ve also cried when no one bought during a launch I poured my heart into. I’ve cried after receiving a refund request. I’ve cried from exhaustion after working too many late nights chasing the version of success the internet told me I had to have.
The problem? I thought I was the only one.
I looked around the online space and thought: Is everyone else handling this better than me? Is everyone else just… coasting?
Spoiler alert: They’re not.
Behind every Instagram highlight reel, there’s a behind-the-scenes story you don’t always see. Yes, your favorite coaches cry. They doubt. They feel overwhelmed. Entrepreneurship is hard for all of us. It’s not just you.
So many of us come into entrepreneurship with expectations. We think success will be linear. We think that if we just work hard enough, the rewards will come instantly. We think that if we hit the right numbers, the imposter syndrome will disappear.
But success isn’t a straight line. It’s a winding road with potholes, roadblocks, and detours. And the weight of that journey—especially when you’re trying to grow your business solo—can be heavy.
That pressure is real. But here’s what I want you to remember:
“I am doing the best I can with what I have.”
I first heard this idea from the incredible Brené Brown, and it changed how I view myself—and how I view others.
On the days when you feel like nothing is going right…
When you miss a goal you’ve worked toward for months…
When the only person liking your content is your mom…
Repeat after me:
I am doing the best I can with what I have.
This doesn’t mean you’re giving up. It means you’re giving yourself grace.
Once I gave myself permission to not have it all together, things changed. Not overnight. Not magically. But slowly, I found my footing again. I began to rebuild, not from hustle or shame—but from honesty and strategy.
I began teaching my clients the same thing. One of them, who had been stuck at $2K months, learned how to stop overworking and start trusting her new pricing. Another finally released the shame of slow growth and went on to build a waitlist of aligned clients.
The truth is: growth is slower when it’s rooted in sustainability—but it lasts longer.
When you embrace the reality that entrepreneurship is hard and worth it, you stop chasing the algorithm and start building a business that supports you.
If you’re in a hard season right now, let me say this:
You’re not behind.
You’re not failing.
You’re not broken.
You are building. And building anything worth having takes time, resilience, and courage.
Tears included.
If you’re nodding along and thinking, “Okay… I needed this,” I have something for you.
