Is Sales Sleazy?

Intro To Sales, Sales

November 9, 2023

My grandma said it best when she said, “ I could never work in sales; I hate convincing people to buy something.” (and you probably said the same thing before starting your business unless you worked in sales)

Sales is not what you think it is

I’ve had so many business owners tell me the same thing, “I want to fill my offer, but I don’t want to be sleazy, icky, gross.”

Good news, that is NOT what sales is. So you don’t have to be sleazy, icky, or gross to sign clients into your business.

So you started a business but didn’t want to get into sales?

Starting a business means that you take on jobs that you had NO IDEA were included. The two biggest ones are content creation and sales.

While content creation is FUN because you create unique content that others respond to, sales come with a negative mindset.

You don’t like sales unless you were in sales before

When I was 21, I started the process of car shopping at a local dealership where my brother worked. My brother wasn’t there that day, so instead, I worked with one of his friends. So when I found the PERFECT truck and took it for a test drive.

I realized why people viewed sales in such a negative light.

First Strike – The salesperson didn’t talk to me; he spoke to my boyfriend, who at the time was there for moral support. That can be easily overlooked because we weren’t clear on WHO was buying the car.

Second Strike – as we pulled in and went to crunch the numbers, It was a simple statement. If I could get you under $200/month – would this be your truck? I said yes, that was the best car payment.

But after talking to his boss – it wasn’t possible then… While I understood after the interaction about commission and meeting quotas – I felt cheated. Once the trust was broken, I wanted to leave.

But THEN it was like I was the hostage and couldn’t leave. After sneaking out the door, the same salesman kept calling me.

I had moved on from that truck because it felt too good to be true.

You are probably nodding your head because we all have had a sales experience that felt too good to be accurate and left a sour taste.

So, have your therapy moment – let’s redefine sales for you.

What is Sales?

Imagine if you had a superpower, but the only way to activate it was to tell people about it and help them. You can’t help everyone, but you can help some people.

If you had this superpower, you would start going person to person to ensure they are the right fit. And then, you would make sure they knew about it, and you helped them.

You would be helping them and finding the right people.

Your business is your super power, and the way to help more people is sales.

Finding the right people

Sharing it with them

Helping them

There are ways to sell that align with you, your business mission, and helping others. But right now – not selling is holding you back more. It’s all about finding a way to sell and doing it consistently.

Is Sales Sleazy?

Hey, I'm Meghan

I didn’t plan to end up in sales, but here I am, after 10 years, with over 350+ entrepreneurs served and probably not leaving anytime soon.

From getting fired after 11 grueling months in management to helping my clients double their revenue, I’ve learned that selling isn’t about sleazy pitches. It’s about connection, clarity, and confidence.

And now, I’m here to teach you everything I wish I had known when I started.

I TOOK MY LAST $200 AND TURNED IT INTO $200K IN MY FIRST YEAR.
